Maintain Healthy Teeth and Gums with Our Dentist in Rockville, MD

Professional Teeth Cleaning Treatments and Periodontal Maintenance

Periodontal Care

Professional Care for Healthy Teeth and Gums

We encourage all patients to come in for a professional teeth cleaning at least twice a year to eliminate tartar buildup and reduce the risk of tooth decay. However, if gum disease is present, you may need to visit us more frequently. Dr. John Savukinas is an experienced dentist in Rockville, MD and can prepare a complete treatment plan that includes gum disease treatment and periodontal maintenance to ensure optimal oral health. If you have gum disease, you may need to undergo specialized periodontal procedures to maintain an infection-free mouth. We are here to help in any way we can.

Scaling and Root Planing

Your risk of tooth loss increases when you develop periodontal pockets and gum disease remains untreated. Scaling and root planing is a nonsurgical periodontal treatment that utilizes specialized teeth cleaning techniques deep below the gum line. We will effectively remove tartar and plaque deposits from the root surfaces so that the gums can heal and reattach to the tooth structure. Scaling and root planing is a very effective treatment option for patients in the early stages of periodontitis.

Periodontal Maintenance

Patients who have been treated for gum disease will need periodontal maintenance therapy as part of their treatment plan. This includes thorough maintenance cleanings every three to four months, retreating any areas of recurring infection, and closely monitoring the health of the gums. The goal of periodontal maintenance is to maintain the gum tissues and better manage the oral bacteria that cause gum disease.

We can also provide tips for brushing and flossing your teeth regularly to reduce the risk of plaque buildup and other oral health issues.
